I Will Live This Day as if It Is My Last

I will live this day as if it is my last.

And what shall I do with this last precious day which remains in my keeping?First,I will seal up its container of life so that not one drop spills itself upon the sand. I will waste not a moment mourning yesterday’s misfortunes, yesterday’s defeats, yesterday’s aches of the heart, for why should I throw good after bad?

Can sand flow upward in the hour glass? Will the sun rise where it sets and set where it rises? Can I relive the errors of yesterday and right them? Can I call back yesterday’s wounds and make them whole? Can I become younger than yesterday? Can I take back the evil that was spoken, the blows that were struck, the pain that was caused? No. Yesterday is buried forever and I will think of it no more.

I will live this day as if it is my last.

And what then shall I do? Forgetting yesterday neither will I think of tomorrow. Why should I throw note after maybe? Can tomorrow’s sand flow through the glass before today’s? Will the sun rise twice this morning? Can I perform tomorrow’s deeds while standing in today’s path? Can I place tomorrow’s gold in today’s purse? Can tomorrow’s child be bom today? Can tomorrow’s death cast its shadow backward and darken today’s joy? Should I concern myself over events which 1 may never witness? Should I torment myself with problems that may never come to pass? No! Tomorrow lies buried with yesterday, and I will think of it no more.

I will live this day as if it is my last.

This day is all I have and these hours are now my eternity. I greet this sunrise with cries of joy as a prisoner who is reprieved from death. I lift my arms with thanks for this priceless gift of a new day. So too, I will beat upon my heart with gratitude as I consider all who greeted yesterday’s sunrise who are no longer with the living today.I am indeed a fortunate man and today’s hours are but a bonus, undeserved.

I will live this day as if it is my last.

I have but one life and life is naught but, a measurement of time. When I waste one I destroy the other. If I waste today I destroy the last page of my life. Therefore, each hour of this day will I cherish for it can never return. It cannot be banked today to be withdrawn on the morrow, for who can trap the wind? Each minute of this day will I grasp with both hands and fondle with love for its value is beyond price. What dying man can purchase another breath though he willingly give all his gold? What price dare I place on the hours ahead? I will make them priceless!

I will live this day as if it is my last.

And if it is my last, it will be my greatest monument. This day I will make the best day of my life. This day I will drink every minute to its full.I will savor its taste and give thanks. I will make the every hour count and each minute I will trade only for something of value. I will labor harder than ever before and push my muscles until they cry for relief, and then I will continue. I will make more calls than ever before. I will sell more goods than ever before. I will earn more gold than ever before. Each minute of today will be more fruitful than hours of yesterday. My last must be my best.

For years villagers believed that Endley farm was haunted. The farm was owned by two brothers, Joe and Bert Cox. They employed a few farm hands, but no one was willing to work there long. Every time a worker gave up his job, he told the same story. Farm labourers said that they always woke up to find the work had been done overnight. Hay had been cut and cow sheds had been cleaned. A farm worker, who stayed up all night, claimed to have seen a figure cutting corn in the

moonlight. In time, it became an accepted fact that the Cox brothers employed a conscientious ghost that did most of their work for them.

No one suspected that there might be someone else on the farm who had never been seen. This was indeed the case. A short time ago, villagers were astonished to learn that the ghost of Endley had died. Everyone went to the funeral, for the "ghost" was none other than Eric Cox, a third brother who was supposed to have died as a young man. After the funeral, Joe and Bert revealed

a secret which they had kept for over forty years. Eric had been the eldest son of the family. He had been obliged to join the army during the first World War. As he hated army life he decided to desert his regiment. When he learnt that he would be sent abroad, he returned to the farm and his farther hid him until the end of the war. Fearing the authorities, Eric remained in hiding after the war as well. His father told everybody that Eric had been killed in action. The only other people who knew the secret were Joe and Bert. They did not even tell their wives. When their father died, they thought it their duty to keep Eric in hiding. All these years, Eric had lived as a recluse(隐遁者, 寂寞者). He used to sleep during the day and work at night, quite unaware of the fact that he had become the ghost of Endley. When he died, however, his brothers found it impossible to keep the secret any longer.

Perhaps the most extraordinary building of the nineteeth century was the Crystal Palace, which was built in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851. The Crystal Palace was different from all other buildings in the world, for it was made of iron and glass. It was one of the biggest buildings of all time and a lot of people from many countries came to see it. A great many goods were sent to the exhibition from various parts of the world. There was also a great deal of machinery on display. The most wonderful piece of machinery on show was Nasmyth"s steam hammer. Though in those days, traveling was not as easy as it is today, steam boats carried thousands of visitors across the Channel from Europe. On arriving in England, they were taken to the Crystal Palace by train. There were six million visitors in all, and the profits from the exhibition were used to build museums and colleges. Later, the Crystal Palace was moved to South London. It remained one of the most famous buildings in the world until it was burnt down in 1936.

  My Journals 7

June 22, 2005.. I bought a 525 ml bottle of Vaseline(a brand of lotion.) Extra Strength lotion. It was on sale, just 3 bucks, like RMB 20 kuai. That was a really good deal. I can use it for 365 days. Saving is my premier job, coz Im not rich and also couldn’t buy luxury products. One of my friends who is in Australia only love Louis Vuitton( a luxury brand of leather products from France) Last time, she sent me some pictures about her Louis Vuitton collection. It was huge! Everything of hers is Louis Vuitton, even her underwears.( Does Louis Vuitton produce UNDERWEAR?) She probably bought a Nissan(a car brand from Japan.) 350z. Wow! I love that car very much, but I can’t afford it. When we were in the same senior high school, she told her friends she liked me, but she never said it to me. When I knew it, she is already living in Australia. We chat sometimes on MSN(a message software which is extensively used all over the world), but we are just common friends. Speak it like it is, I was never in love with her, coz I didn’t have that feeling. Maybe she was seeing me, but I was not. Yesterday, I mentioned about a Korean girl. She was rich as well. She has a BMW X5 and…… I think that car is enough to prove everything. How come those girls who liked me are much richer than me? Im poor and still suffer the poverty. When these 2 girls are eating delicious food, I m eating instant noodle soup. When they are driving on the road elatedly, Im walking to university. I really wanna find a poor girl to be my galfriend, coz I could also find the balance. My ex-girlfriend is living in Japan. She is ok, not that rich. Sometimes, we talk online, and she still calls me SWEETIE and regards me as her husband. I can see through she wants to get back our relationship. Ha, that is okay. But it doesn’t make any sense. She won’t come to Canada for me. She has a good job and family there. That was why I did not want her to tag along with me and stick with me. We are hopeless although our love lasted almost 4 years. I just wanna get over it! Now Im a 100% single man. I live by myself. Everyday I keep being busy. I do believe that sometimes girl is nothing but troubles. Today, I bought a new tee, the words printed on the shirt are “Canadian Girls Drinking Team”, I just felt it was interesting and bought it. Maybe some of my friends see it, they probably scream “are you gonna change your sex and join that team, man? You look weird and freak! ” Ha, who cares!

I just tried to use very very basic and easy words here in order to make each sentence more understandable and clean out any vocabulary blocks. I just hope you enjoy it and keep reading it day by day. Today, my test was fabulous! Tomorrow there is another one. Im gonna prepare it. Cya.( See ya)

A red dragon in the global economy

Many Chinese believe that for China to be strong its trade account must not be in the red. It must have a trade surplus to grow prosperous. So if we look back at 5000 years of Chinese history, it would be surprising that the time China’s trade was in the red was also just when the ‘middle kingdom’ was at its peak during that dynasty.

For example, during Han Dynasty, China ran a trade deficit for centuries with neighboring countries, and it was also the time China became the center of the Asia. Another obvious example is the Tang and Song Dynasty (from 7th century to 11th century), when China was again in a trade deficit with nearly all its neighbors. China was then experiencing shortages of gold, silver or even bronze, but none of this had blocked the red dragon from being the strongest nation at that time. But at the end of Song Dynasty, just decades before the Chinese were invaded and defeated by Mongolians, China became the main exporter in Asia and it was one of the several periods when China was weak. Historians cannot sim* conclude this as coincidence.

Recent history tells the same story. The end of 19th century was a nightmare for the ancient nation. Many blamed the trade deficit that resulted from opium trade as the plague which caused the weakness of China’s economy in the late Qing Dynasty. However, if we put opium trade aside, China was still a large exporter in the world while it imported little from the outside world. At some point, China’s trade partners had to use opium as a way to pay for their trade deficit with China. Earlier, in the middle of the 18th century, China could produce enough opium for domestic market and also become an exporter in normal definition, but it didn’t help China to be a stronger nation at all. When China launched its first industrialization campaign, it’s trade soon turned into red again, but this happened during the last struggle of Qing Dynasty in its dying years.

After its opening-up in 1978, China was in the red again for eleven years, with the exception of 1983. The government is implementing of a strategy of stimulating exports initially from China’s opening-up. It is a reasonable policy for a post-communism economy which is lack of an efficient fiancé system and a minimum-required foreign currency reserve.

Since 1990, China has been chalking up trade surplus with the exception of 1993. In 2004, the trade surplus of China amounts to $70 billion, of which $58.6 billion from Sino-US trade. With its expanding of trade surplus, its economic rapid growth continues for decades. At the same time, Chinese factories are famous for dumping cheap goods from advantages of its low-cost labors and poor environment standard. After all, China is developing, much faster than EU, US, Japan or any other major power of the world. There is no doubt that China is regaining its strength and will be a major economic power in the 21st century.

What will China bring to the globalization of economy? Even for a country of 1.2 billion population and 960 square kilometers, there is no unlimited sup* of cheap labor or unlimited tolerance of environment pollution. However, the demand of the 1.2 billion population market in a fast-growing economy could be the powerful engine of the global economy in human history. Some of Chinese key officials and scholars has turned to pro-deficit attitude on this debate and more and more people realize that China has no responsibility to sup* the world with cheap goods while the living standard of Chinese people are below average level. While those booming Chinese companies have shown their appetites for raw materials on the global market, the extravagance of Chinese wealthy family in cities has given hopes to global manufacturers.

Most of the pressure to grow imports comes from China’s trade partners, especially US and Japan. A strong wind calling for the revaluation of RMB has been blowing since the beginning of 2003, and some even criticize China as an exporter of deflation. At the same time, huge amounts of hot money flow into China despite capital controls that strictly limit money flows into this country. Chinese officials have openly refused to revaluate RMB under pressure and some even say that its a conspiracy to sacrifice China’s economy without bringing benefits to the global economy. But those strong words against the revaluation of RMB were more or less for internal politics. The government then began to boost the imports to ease the pressure on the currency.

Domestically, there are more and more criticisms against the stimulating-export policies, especially the tax reimbursement policy. The tax reimbursement to exporters has aggravated the fiscal deficit of the central government. The government has paid 125 billion RMB and 115 billion RMB for tax reimbursement. This appropriation was far from the amount incurred every year and up to the end of 2003, the tax reimbursement in arrears reached to 340 billion RMB ($41.06 billion). The profit margin rates of many exporters are below the reimbursement rate. As the default of payment accumulated year-by-year, some exporters have fallen into liquidity problem while waiting for the payment of tax reimbursement in arrears.

So China should not be afraid to become red in trade, like it has during many periods of greatness. If the dragon becomes be red for years or even decades, the most foreseeable consequence is that RMB will be an international currency. To support an international currency, China should build ‘a stable macroeconomic environment, an efficient market mechanism and a healthy banking system’ as Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao mentioned as the preconditions for a revaluation of RMB. It is easy to say what’s good but it is difficult to identify the problems and solve them. When the growth is still enough to sustain the system, who will be brave enough to cut the mess behind the rise? China should not be afraid to become red again.

  Make your fate in control

Fate is determined by character, and character is determined by knowledge, desire and habit. If a person wants to change his fate, he has to change his character first; and if he wants to change his character, he has to change his knowledge or his desires and habits. Complaining to other people or the environments makes no sense.

Actually, everybody in this world will know about the meaning of life. It’s just the matter of time. A worker, who had just lost his job, met a university professor one day. He admitted that he didn’t love to study when he was a student. He just hated to study no matter what and how his father asked him to. When he got a job and became a worker, he realized how important to have knowledge in this world. But, it was too late…

There are no parents who don’t think studying is important for their children, and all the parents tell their children to study hard. We, however, still have so much difference on different children, on the results, that we finally will know it’ is the matter of self-control.

When we are kids in a primary school, we see no difference from each other. We just know somebody is good at Chinese, Math or Sports. We just know that the teacher likes him or her. Nowadays, we differentiate our classmates by their parents. We say: oh, god, his father is the vice mayor, his father is very rich; his mother is the dean of the biggest hospital…. This is definitely not a good sign for China and the Chinese people, because it makes no competition for the youngsters, who are having China’s future in hand.

The poor always hate the rich, because they see the rich driving all the luxury cars, living in condominiums, villas and spending money like they are countless. And the poor see the rich always on vocations, always so relaxed and enjoyable. So the poor are jealous and they wonder how can the rich be so rich and the poor are so poor. Well, the poor obviously forget one thing: When the rich are working hard and smart to collect money, the poor are lying somewhere and making complains.

Make your fate and success in control; you can make a difference in the future, unless you want to a poor person, both mentally and physically.

  The Language of Music

A painter hangs his or her finished picture on a wall, and everyone can see it. A composer writes a work, but no one can hear it until it is performed. Professional singers and players have great responsibilities, for the composer is utterly dependent on them. A student of music needs as long and as arduous a training to become a performer as a medical student needs to become a doctor. Most training is concerned with technique, for musicians have to have the muscular proficiency of an athlete or a ballet dancer. Singers practice breathing every day, as their vocal chords would be inadequate without controlled muscular support. String players practice moving the fingers of the left hand up and down, while drawing the bow to and fro with the right arm —— two entirely different movements.

Singers and instrumentalists have to be able to get every note perfectly in tune. Pianists are spared this particular anxiety, for the notes are already there, waiting for them, and it is the piano tuner"s responsibility to tune the instrument for them. But they have their own difficulties: the hammers that hit the strings have to be coaxed not to sound like percussion, and each overlapping tone has to sound clear.

This problem of getting clear texture is one that confronts student conductors: they have to learn to know every note of the music and how it should sound, and they have to aim at controlling these sounds with fanatical but selfless authority.

Technique is of no use unless it is combined with musical knowledge and understanding. Great artists are those who are so thoroughly at home in the language of music that they can enjoy performing works written in any century.

Andrew Carnegie, known as the King of Steel, built the steel industry in the United States, and, in the process, became one of the wealthiest men in America. His success resulted in part from his ability to sell the product and in part from his policy of expanding during periods of economic decline, when most of his compe*s were reducing their investments.

Carnegie believed that individuals should progress through hard work, but he also felt strongly that the wealthy should use their fortunes for the benefit of society. He opposed charity, preferring instead to provide educational opportunities that would allow others to help themselves. "He who dies rich, dies disgraced, " he often said.Among his more noteworthy contributions to society are those that bear his name, including the Carnegie Institute of Pittsburgh, which has a library, a museum of fine arts, and a museum of national history. He also founded a school of technology that is now part of Carnegie-Mellon University. Other philanthropic gifts are the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace to promote understanding between nations, the Carnegie Institute of Washington to fund scientific research, and Carnegie Hall to provide a center for the arts.

Few Americans have been left untouched by Andrew Carnegie"s generosity. His contributions of more than five million dollars established 2,500 libraries in small communities throughout the country and formed the nucleus of the public library system that we all enjoy today.

  Police and Communities

Few institutions are more important to an urban community than its police, yet there are few subjects historians know so little about. Most of the early academic interests developed among political scientists and sociologists, who usually examined their own contemporary problems with only a nod toward the past. Even the public seemed concerned only during crime waves, periods of blatant corruption, or after a particularly grisly episode. Party regulars and reformers generally viewed the institution from a political perspective; newspapers and magazines - the nineteenth century"s media - emphasized the vivid and spectacular.

Yet urban society has always vested a wide, indeed awesome, responsibility in its police. Not only were they to maintain order, prevent crime, and protect life and property, but historically they were also to fight fires, suppress vice, assist in health services, supervise elections, direct traffic, inspect buildings, and locate truants and runaways. In addition, it was assumed that the police were the special guardians of the citizens" liberties and the community"s tranquillity. Of course, the performance never matched expectations. The record contains some success, but mostly failure; some effective leadership, but largely official incompetence and betrayal. The notion of a professional police force in America is a creation of the twentieth century; not until our own time have cities begun to take the steps necessary to produce modern departments.

  Food and Health

The food we eat seems to have profound effects on our health. Although science has made enormous steps in making food more fit to eat, it has, at the same time, made many foods unfit to eat. Some research has shown that perhaps eighty percent of all human illnesses are related to diet and forty percent of cancer is related to the diet as well, especially cancer of the colon. Different cultures are more prone to contract certain illnesses because of the food that is characteristic in these cultures. That food is related to illness is not a new discovery. In 1945, government researchers realized that nitrates and nitrites, commonly used to preserve color in meats, and other food additives, caused cancer. Yet, these carcinogenic additives remain in our food, and it becomes more difficult all the time to know which things in the packaging labels of processed food are helpful or harmful. The additives which we eat are not all so direct. Farmers often give penicillin to beef and poultry, and because of this, penicillin has been found in the milk of treated cows. Sometimes similar drugs are administered to animals not for medicinal purposes, but for financial reasons. The farmers are sim* trying to fatten the animals in order to obtain a higher price on the market. Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has tried repeatedly to control these procedures, the practices continue.

Everyone is attracted by beauty and beauty is powerful. But what is true beauty? Perhaps you can get the answer from the following story.

This morning I went to the market to buy some vegetables with my parents. On the way we all highly praised a young man in western-style clothes and leather shoes who was riding by. But he rode so fast that he knocked an old lady down carelessly.Instead of stopping, he pretended not to see this and rode away quickly. We were all very angry with the young man. To our happiness, a girl in plain dress ran forward at once, helped the lady up and took her home. We all praised the girl.

From this we know we cannot judge a person by his appearance. A person who is dressed beautifully may not have a beautiful soul. Only a person who has a beautiful soul is really beautiful.

《 Notre Dame cathedral》 is one known far and wide romantic faction strength which Victor Hugo writes . I take advantage of this summer vacation free time, read this great work.

Notre Dame cathedral"s story, actually was one at that time social epic poem, since brimmed with really. Friendly. Beautiful, also the flow selfish desire and is false. Regardless of is good beautiful Asmelada ,or has the ugly semblance, Cacimodo with one pure mind, they represent the great amount the lower level populace which suppresses; Perhaps is sinister Coloud, he is appears by the theocracy face, all load bearing one kind of author"s ponder. The author in this work, for with the clown, was beautifully friendly and wickedly does the best annotation, or take above three people as the example, the rebel Asmelada has the beautiful semblance and the chaste good mind, as well as pitiful destiny, but Cacimodo, he withstood destiny deceive nicely, the innermost feelings is his misery is graver, but Coloud maintained the benighted social rights and interests, he had brutally. Void mind and evil passion. Good person physique hateful, but the evil person actually says the appearance shore however, bright set off, social unfair manifest.

But the article result also is when the opposition society until criticism: All beautiful is good all swallows by the might and the evil, the lower level people"s weak strength in under the king power rule, in the benighted society, only can be reduced to ashes. Was palatial Notre Dame cathedral, how many world tragedy testimony once, in Hugo the novel, he as if had the life breath, he sheltered Asmelada ,exposed Coloud the crime, regret the populace attack the magnificent feat which dark actually heroically devoted……

Another the question which is worth pondering is: Who is the hero? Asmelada or Cacimodo? I think all is not, but is in the article by the Louis 11 rank smell of blood suppression rather for sacreficed the populace gate, Asmelada with Cacimodo is not in them the representative, Asmelada is loves with the beautiful symbol, Cacimodo not many represents is unfortunate and the pain. But they, all suffer a tragic middle ages ignorant evil forces devastate, one each one painful soul is bleeding, flows the tear. Merely is Notre Dame cathedral"s above engraves " the destiny "? They are in middle ages France, despotism sacrificial victim.

The entire story rich tragic color, the plot intense is moving, exciting. Author Hugo through " Notre Dame cathedral " this story, but also disclosed at that time the dark society"s essence to the people. This fascinating story likes that Ccimodo clocks sound equally shocks several generation of readers" minds.
