试题答案英语 第6篇

一、阅读理解

The computer makes doing schoolwork easier for me than it was for my mom and dad. For example, when writing book reports and stories, I use Microsoft word instead of a pen and paper. That way, after my teacher edits my work, I can go back and make revisions without having to rewrite the whole thing. And Microsoft Word has a spell check! I use it all the time.

For English class, we’re reading The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton. As a pre - reading assignment (作业), my teacher asked us to research teenage groups on the internet. I tried Google, Encarta, and Yahoo first, and finally found an article on Time. Com.

For a geography assignment on the United States, I used Encarta to learn about the Mississippi River. I needed to find out how deep the river is, how its widths and depths are different, what states it runs through, and what kind of fish live in it. I used the information to show how the geography of a country affects (影响) its economy. For example, the river’s trade paths, the number of fish caught in it , and the tourists it attracts (吸引)directly affect Southemers’ jobs and incomes (收入), Doing that, I had a lot of fun.

I never go to the library to do research. It takes too much time, Since I live in New York City and both my parents work, getting to the library isn’t always easy. For a big assignment or research project, I’d have to stay at the library to read, or sign out whatever books or magazines I needed. Being able to find the information in my own living room makes everything a lot simpler. Online dictionaries and encyclopedias (百科全书)also save time.

Sometimes, I think the computer spoils (宠坏) my generation because it’s so easy - at least physically. But computers are not like television, which does the thinking for you. You still have to use your mind. I prefer using a computer, because it has so many advantages.

That is true. The body must have enough sleep to be healthy.Children of young age should have enough sleep,or they cant do their work very well. They will not be wise and they may not become wealthy!

The body also needs exercise: walking, running, jumping, swimming, playing games and all other exercise.Exercise keeps the body strong.Exercise also helps the blood to move around inside the body. This is very important. Our blood takes food to all parts of our body. The head also needs blood.Exercise helps us to think better.

In the 1960s,while studying the volcanic history of Yellowstone National Park,Bob Christiansen became puzzled about something that, oddly, had not troubled anyone before:he couldn"t find the park"s It had been known for a long time that Yellowstone was volcanic in nature — that"s what accounted for all its hot springs and other steamy But Christiansen couldn"t find the Yellowstone volcano

Most of us,when we talk about volcanoes, think of the classic cone(圆锥体)shapes of a Fuji or Kilimanjaro, which are created when erupting magma(岩浆)piles These can form remarkably In 1943,a Mexican farmer was surprised to see smoke rising from a small part of his In one week he was the confused owner of a cone five hundred feet Within two years it had topped out at almost fourteen hundred feet and was more than half a mile Altogether there are some ten thousand of these volcanoes on Earth, all but a few hundred of them There is,however,a second les known type of volcano that doesn"t involve mountain These are volcanoes so explosive that they burst open in a single big crack, leaving behind a vast hole, the Yellowstone obviously was of this second type, but Christiansen couldn"t find the caldera

Just at this time NASA decided to test some new high-altitude cameras by taking photographs of A thoughtful official passed on some of the copies to the park authorities on the assumption that they might make a nice blow-up for one of the visitors" As soon as Christiansen saw the photos,he realized why he had failed to spot the caldera; almost the whole million acres—was The explosion had left a hole more than forty miles across—much too huge to be seen from anywhere at ground At some time in the past Yellowstone must have blown up with a violence far beyond the scale of anything known to

Who cares if people think wrongly that the Internet has had more important influences than the washing machine? Why does it matter that people are more impressed by the most recent changes?

It would not matter if these misjudgments were just a matter of people"s However, they have real impacts, as they result in misguided use of scarce

The fascination with the ICT(Information and Communication Technology) revolution, represented by the Internet, has made some rich countries wrongly conclude that making things is so "yesterday" that they should try to live on This belief in "post-industrial society" has led those countries to neglect their manufacturing sector(制造业) with negative consequences for their

Even more worryingly, the fascination with the Internet by people in rich countries has moved the international community to worry about the "digital divide" between the rich countries and the poor This has led companies and individuals to donate money to developing countries to buy computer equipment and Internet The question, however, is whether this is what the developing countries need the Perhaps giving money for those less fashionable things such as digging wells, extending electricity networks and making more affordable washing machines would have improved people"s lives more than giving every child a laptop computer or setting up Internet centres in rural villages, I am not saying that those things are necessarily more important, but many donators have rushed into fancy programmes without carefully assessing the relative long-term costs and benefits of alternative uses of their

In yet another example, a fascination with the new has led people to believe that the recent changes in the technologies of communications and transportation are so revolutionary that now we live in a "borderless world". As a result, in the last twenty years or so, many people have come to believe that whatever change is happening today is the result of great technological progress, going against which will be like trying to turn the clock Believing in such a world, many governments have put an end to some of the very necessary regulations on cross-border flows of capital, labour and goods, with poor

Understanding technological trends is very important for correctly designing economic policies, both at the national and the international levels, and for making the right career choices at the individual However, our fascination with the latest, and our under valuation of what has already become common, can, and has, led us in all sorts of wrong

Misjudgments on the influences of new technology can lead to

a lack of confidence in technology

B a slow progress in technology

a conflict of public opinions

a waste of limited resources

The example in Paragraph 4 suggests that donators should

take people"s essential needs into account

make their programmes attractive to people

ensure that each child gets financial support

D provide more affordable internet facilities

What has led many governments to remove necessary regulations?

Neglecting the impacts of technological

Believing that the world has become

Ignoring the power of economic

Over-emphasizing the role of international

What can we learn from the passage?

People should be encouraged to make more

Traditional technology still has a place

Making right career choices is crucial to personal

Economic policies should follow technological

Like most of us, I try to be mindful of food that goes to The

In a world where nearly 800 million people a year go hungry, “food waste

goes against the moral grain,” as Elizabeth Royte writes in this month’s

cover It’s jaw-dropping how much perfectly good food is thrown away

— from “ugly” (but quite eatable) vegetables rejected by grocers to large

amounts of uneaten dishes thrown into restaurant garbage

Producing food that no one eats wastes the water, fuel, and other

resources used to grow That makes food waste an environmental

In fact, Royte writes, “if food waste were a country, it would be the third

largest producer of greenhouse gases in the ”

If that’s hard to understand, let’s keep it as simple as the arugula at the

back of my Mike Curtin sees my arugula story all the time —

than 807,500 pounds of food by taking donations and collecting blemished

(有瑕疵的) produce that otherwise would have rotted in And the

strawberries? Volunteers will wash, cut, and freeze or dry them for use in

meals down the

Such methods seem obvious, yet so often we just don’t “Everyone

can play a part in reducing waste, whether by not purchasing more food

than necessary in your weekly shopping or by asking restaurants to not

include the side dish you won’t ” Curtin

Human speech contains more than 2,000 different sounds, from the

common “m” and “a” to the rare clicks of some southern African

But why are certain sounds more common than others? A ground-breaking,

five-year study shows that diet-related changes in human bite led to new

speech sounds that are now found in half the world’s

More than 30 years ago, the scholar Charles Hockett noted that speech

sounds called labiodentals, such as “f” and “v”, were more common in the

languages of societies that ate softer Now a team of researchers led by

Damián Blasi at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, has found how and

why this trend

They discovered that the upper and lower front teeth of ancient human

adults were aligned (对齐), making it hard to produce labiodentals, which

are formed by touching the lower lip to the upper Later, our jaws

changed to an overbite structure (结构), making it easier to produce such

The team showed that this change in bite was connected with the

development of agriculture in the Neolithic Food became easier to

chew at this The jawbone didn’t have to do as much work and so

didn’t grow to be so

Analyses of a language database also confirmed that there was a global

change in the sound of world languages after the Neolithic age, with the use

of “f” and “v” increasing remarkably during the last few thousand

These sounds are still not found in the languages of many hunter-gatherer

people

This research overturns the popular view that all human speech sounds

were present when human beings evolved around 300,000 years “The

set of speech sounds we use has not necessarily remained stable since the

appearance of human beings, but rather the huge variety of speech sounds

that we find today is the product of a complex interplay of things like

biological change and cultural evolution,” said Steven Moran, a member of

the research

Which aspect of the human speech sound does Damián Blasi’s research

focus on?

Its

Why was it difficult for ancient human adults to produce labiodentals?

They had fewer upper teeth than lower

They could not open and close their lips

Their jaws were not conveniently

Their lower front teeth were not large

What is paragraph 5 mainly about?

Supporting evidence for the research

Potential application of the research

A further explanation of the research

A reasonable doubt about the research

What does Steven Moran say about the set of human speech sounds?

After running hundreds of tests, the researchers noted that the monkeys would go for the higher values more

When the team examined the results of the experiment more closely, they noticed that the monkeys tended to underestimate(低估)a sum compared with a single symbol when the two were close in value—sometimes choosing, for example, a 13 over the sum of 8 and The underestimation was systematic: When adding two numbers, the monkeys always paid attention to the larger of the two, and then added only a fraction(小部分)of the smaller number to
